You are doing important work
My meditation teacher Mick Timpson of beanddo often says of yoga and meditation "You are doing important work". What he means is that yoga creates positive change. For us as students, and for everyone around us. It really does have the potential to change the world.
Yoga and meditation help us to change our perspective of ourselves and the world around us. Yoga and meditation helps us to go deeper inwards, exploring and becoming more aware of our inner, peaceful, present, steady self, then we realise that we need nothing else. It's then that we start to let go of the striving, grasping and stress of what we think we need to have or need to do. We begin to realise more clearly what is and what isn't necessary. The worries and anxieties that come with the wants, needs, shoulds and coulds ease as we become more used to our peaceful, satisfied inner self. As we become more present.
This takes work (important work) it takes practice, but it really does work.
And yes it can change the world, not only because we feel healthier, happier, more positive and more creative, but also because this has a knock on effect to those around us.
"We're not on a journey to save the world but to save ourselves. However, in doing that you save the world. The influence of a vital person vitalises." The Power of Myth, Joseph Campbell with Bill Moyer's.
In a world with seemingly increasing stress and poor mental health. Where news stories are full of tragedy, often related to stress, we have to keep up our important work of yoga and meditation.
P.S. Yoga and meditation practice take work, but not hard work especially when you find a positive, accessible, friendly class and style that suits you - then it becomes fun work!
