4 venues later, 83 hours of classes, 63 babies and their mummies,  1 website, 1 fledgling blog and £303 for charity later and here I am with a full blown 1 year old yoga business.

On 20th June 2013 I taught my very first class as a qualified Birthlight Baby Yoga teacher.  Fresh from my training and coursework I had my first lessons planned for a short summer term with no real idea of how many babies and mums would come along.  Luckily for me I had found a wonderful venue in the studio at Dave’s Gym, Northwich and I had a small group of mums and babies to support me in my first baby steps as a new yoga teacher.  And from that first lesson I feel that I have gone from strength to strength thanks to the support of those mums and babies and the many more who have come along to class since.

Thank you!

Breathing Space Baby Yoga

I have been really lucky to grow my weekly classes from 1 to 5 over the year with 4 lovely venues who really support what I do. A huge thank you to the staff at Dave’s Gym, Knutsford Sports Club, Inhale Yoga Studio, Hale and most recently Barnaby’s Playbarn, Blakemere Village.  Without their support I could not have shared the special, nurturing and fun baby yoga brings to a parent and baby with all of the mums and babies I have over the past year.

I also have to thank some key teachers on my journey so far – Alison Colyer and Jo Kirwin my local yoga and baby yoga teachers respectively, who supported my step to begin my teacher training and offered their time as mentors.  Marion O’Connor who was an amazing tutor on my Birthlight training course. Jess Healy for allowing me to observe her classes and pick her brains, my fellow trainee teachers for giving me so much inspiration during our training and especially Sam Sanderson, Zoe Lawrie  and Bel Harvey for their help and advice and constant Facebook love and inspiration.

The biggest thank you has to be to the mums and babies that come along to class.  I learn from every class and every mum and baby that joins us. They help me to grow as a teacher.  It is such a privilege to be a part of those precious first few months of a parent and baby’s life together.  I see the bonds grow, the delight on the faces of baby and parent as we do our wonderful baby yoga movements and share precious time together.  Thank you all for bringing fun, light and happiness into each week of the past year and I look forward to that continuing for a long time to come.

So what’s next for Breathing Space Baby Yoga?

Well first there’s a birthday party to be enjoyed.  I’ll be holding a teddy bears picnic for all the babies and parents that have been to class over the past year.  We’ll be raising money for The Brain Tumour Charity whilst enjoying some party-time baby yoga and cake!

Then I will continue to work hard to plan lessons and make them as enjoyable, beneficial and fresh as possible.  I want to really consolidate the wonderful classes I now have running.  I’ll be on the look out for other venues and opportunities too.  I want to encourage more Dads to come along to class and share the benefits of Baby Yoga with them, not just mums – so come on Dad’s where are you?! There’s also the small matter of my adult yoga teacher training which I am half way through which will bring more opportunities over the coming year.

I look forward to the journey and seeing where it takes me.
